The Lone Wolf - acrylic painting

Wolves are legendary because of their spine-tingling howl, which they use to communicate. A lone wolf howls to attract the attention of his pack, while communal howls may send territorial messages from one pack to another. I was inspired to paint this particular wolf after having listened to the howls of several wolves one very still evening. It was the most haunting and lonely sounds I have ever heard. I often hear them still in the woods near our house; sometimes as many as half a dozen and often that one lone wolf.
